Re: Forget adding another gas tax, The News, June 18
I cannot agree with your editorial more.
More taxes are totally unacceptable. I cannot believe the gall of these people. It seems every time they need money, they target transportation.
I pay enough gas tax and property taxes, etc. and they all increase, while my income does not.
I find it really tragic that they think when they attend company functions that they can squeeze us there with, “Open your business or plant in the GTA or Mississauga” — but then they want to increase taxes.
Perhaps it’s time for a new generation of municipal leaders with ideas and solutions to today’s problems, not politicians with the same old refrain.
I have lived and worked all over the continent. Tolls, in every case, are just another tax grab, as are gas taxes.
In most cases, the roads and infrastructure do not get better. I bet it’s a simple solution for them as I’m sure they all have company cars with mileage allowances, but most of us do not.
Any politician who goes with this attitude should be ready to look for a new job. Maybe then they’ll feel the pain of more and more taxes — when they’re off the public purse.
