As someone not born in Canada, but a citizen for almost 50 years, and someone who has travelled and lived in different parts of the world, I deem myself somewhat qualified to express my opinion on what’s transpiring in Afghanistan.
We can be proud of the work being done by our Canadian troops, not only in Afghanistan, but throughout the last 200 years. They’re not afraid to fight for our freedom, nor that of oppressed people even in faraway places.
They step up to the plate and volunteer for the dangerous assignments, unlike some European countries (the British and Dutch are among notable exceptions to this generalization).
For these courageous actions, they always have, and still continue to bear a disproportionate share of casualties.
But our troops have performed magnificently, and highly deserve our respect, support and admiration.
