October 1, 2008 01:38 PM - Party stylist Nik Manojlovic is sharing creative ideas and designs for home entertaining that is easy on the wallet and the environment at the International Home Show.
Bringing a bit of know-how from his HGTV show, Savoir Faire, Manojlovic is one of many lifestyle and culinary experts giving advice at Canada's largest fall home show taking place at the International Centre  Thanksgiving weekend Oct. 10-13.
The show spotlights cooking, design, and renovation experts in more than 400 exhibits featuring the latest trends, while putting the "eco" into economical.
"A lot of times, it's about things that are used twice," said Manojlovic. "One centre-piece idea is to take a beautiful antique or a wooden presentation bowl and filling it with something like using fresh Gala apples. Afterwards, you can take those apples and create a beautiful apple butter.
"It's gorgeous and you're using the same ingredients to create a number of jarred apple butters that you can give away for holiday gifts. It's really about incorporating things that have a dual purpose."
Like on his TV show, Manojlovic will also be giving show-goers tips on personal entertaining that can be incorporated into a sumptuous Thanksgiving dinner.
"One is going to be a spicy cocktail and one's going to be a twist on an old classic," hints Manojlovic. "Then I'm doing fall centre pieces. One of them is a recycled centre piece idea and one is a beautiful garden idea."
These days, says Manojlovic, everyone is looking to be friendlier to the environment, so he's considering using something from the backyard garden or whatever one may have on hand.
"I have a cottage up north that I went up to recently and collected 100 pine-cones," he said. "I was chasing away chipmunks to get them."
Manojlovich appears on the Celebrity Gourmet Kitchen Stage at 2:15 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday.
The event runs Friday from noon-9 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; and Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Adult tickets are $14; youth 9-18 and seniors are $10; children 8 and under free. After 5 p.m., two adults can be admitted for the price of one.
