October 1, 2008 01:30 PM - More than 3,000 children and youth in Peel Region were harmed in some way by those entrusted to care for them last year.
Ontario's Children’s Aid Societies have launched a Child Abuse Prevention Campaign to build awareness of this important issue.
“I believe we all share a commitment to the safety and well-being of children,” said Paul Zarnke, executive director of Peel CAS. “We believe passionately that every child has the right to grow up in an environment where they are loved, nurtured and cherished. We hope people will get involved, learn more and help ensure children are safe and well cared for.”
This is the second year CAS has come together to send a unified message across Ontario. This year’s theme is 'Kids shouldn’t have to live with abuse.'
Information on how to recognize the signs of abuse and how to report abuse is available at useyourvoice.ca or parlezpoureux.ca.
The purple ribbon remains the symbol of the campaign and during October, Peel CAS encourages community leaders, organizations, students and the public to wear a purple ribbon to demonstrate support to end child abuse.
