Lace up your hiking shoes and hit the trails.
Free one-hour guided hikes are being offered on the one kilometre Glassford Trail on the Credit Valley Conservation at 1255 Old Derry Road today.
As part of Trails Open Ontario 2008 and Ontario Hiking Week, which officially starts on Sept. 29 and runs until Oct. 5., the hikes depart at 12:30, 2 and 3:30 p.m. through Glassford Trail. The trail follows along the edge of the Credit River, and goes through forest, floodplain meadows and wetland ecosystems. Participants will also see sites of early milling operations, transportation routes and agriculture.
The Honourable Lincoln M. Alexander, Chairman of the Ontario Heritage Trust said it is an ideal time to go hiking in Ontario.
"Hiking along Ontario's trails provides an opportunity to appreciate our extraordinary natural heritage," said Alexander.
Trails Open Ontario promotes trail use and education, supporting natural heritage conservation and stewardship and encourages physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.
Other Trails Open Ontario events are held at the end of Ontario Hiking Week in Elora, New Market, Goderich, Haldimand, Halton Hills and Niagara-on-the-Lake.
