Three squads still in running for Ontario Cup

August 27, 2008 02:45 PM - Three Mississauga soccer squads picked up wins this past weekend to advance to the Ontario Cup finals.
In the U-12 boys' division, Mississauga Falcons A blanked Brampton East Flames 2-0 in Oshawa. Calvin Gomes opened the scoring at the 16th minute, followed by a marker from David Luis one minute later.
Mississauga will battle Richmond Hill Raiders in the final, which goes Sept. 6.
The Raiders defeated North Mississauga Panthers 4-2 in the other semi-final.
Erin Mills Eagles are also heading to the finals after defeating Mississauga Dixie Hurricanes 4-0 in the U-13 boys' semi-final at Centennial Stadium.
Mark Wadid recorded a hat-trick, while Ishan Rehal added the fourth goal.
The Eagles tackle London City Arsenal Sept. 13 in the final.
In the U-17 girls' division, Erin Mills Eagles B got by Ajax Invasion 1-0 in semi-final action. Justine Glynn netted the lone goal.
The girls' squad takes on Oakville Phantoms Sept. 14 in the final.
All finals will be played at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan.
Other Mississauga teams who lost semi-finals were Mississauga Sharks, who fell 3-1 to Niagara Falls in the U-16 boys' tier two division; Erin Mills Eagles, who lost 3-2 to North London in the women's category; Mississauga Falcons, who lost 4-0 to Burlington in the U-12 girls' division; Mississauga Falcons, who lost 5-2 to Burlington in U-16 girls' action; and Mississauga Dixie Gladiators, who fell 6-2 to North London, also in U-16 girls' play.
