The crash was reported to Ontario Provincial Police a few minutes before 7 a.m. No one was injured in the three-vehicle collision, but the two left lanes of the highway were blocked ... and that caused a considerable backup on the busy commuter route.
Const. Julia McCuaig of the OPP communications bureau told The News that the collision involved two cars and a truck loaded with 30,000 pounds of vegetables.
"Fortunately, there was no spill," McCuaig said. "Otherwise, we'd still be there, cleaning up vegetable soup."
A heavy-duty tow truck, which had difficulty getting to the scene because of the high volume of traffic, removed the damaged vegetable truck.
The highway reopened exactly one hour after the accident was reported.
