August 25, 2008 03:24 PM - Peel Regional Police are hunting two culprits after an 18-year-old man was shot in the leg this afternoon at Westwood Mall in Malton.
According to reports, the shooter was seen fleeing towards the Food Basics inside the mall, while the other culprit was last seen running past Coffee Time.
The shooting occurred just after 12:30 p.m. inside the mall, near Si Vous Play sports store, police said.
Mall employees called 9-1-1 reporting they heard gunshots.
The victim suffered a leg injury not believed to be life-threatening, and is being taken to hospital.
Police say he's being uncooperative.
The Peel police Tactical Rescue Unit has responded to the scene. Police have set up a perimeter around the mall and are searching nearby parks.
The shooter, who was armed with a black handgun, is described as a black man, about six-foot-four with a dark complexion. He was wearing a blue-and-white skull cap, white shirt, black baggy pants and he has a noticeable scar on his right cheek.
The shooting comes just three days after Evan Popoola, 15, was gunned down near St. Jude Elementary School at 175 Nahani Way, in the area of Hurontario St. and Eglinton Ave.
The shooting occurred around Friday at 6:30 p.m.
A 15-year-old boy, who cannot be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with first-degree murder.
