Adam Bland of Adelaide, Australia was the clubhouse leader early this afternoon midway through the final round of the Jane Rogers Championship of Mississauga at Lakeview Golf Club.
Bland shot a two-under-par 68 in the final round of the $125,000 championship to finish at 281, one over par for the 72-hole tournament.
Bland managed to finish just before officials of the Canadian Tour were forced to suspend play for 43 minutes because of lightning and thunder in the area. There was also a brief shower, the first rain that has fallen at Lakeview since Monday.
There were 10 players, including overnight leader Alex Coe of LaQuinta, Calif., still waiting to begin the final round when play was suspended.
Coe stood at 13-under-par 197 through 54 holes, two shots ahead of Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask.
Richard Gilkey of Bakersfield, Calif., created a buzz in the final round. He was in last place after yesterday’s play, sitting at 11 over par for the tournament, and he had to go out alone this morning.
Gilkey, not known as one of the fastest players on the Canadian Tour, covered the 6,404-yard layout in 64 minutes and shot a five-over-par 75 to finish at 296, 16 over par.
