American Alex Coe birdied two of the first five holes this afternoon to move into a two-way tie for the lead midway through the third round of the $125,000 Jane Rogers Championship of Mississauga at the Lakeview Golf Club.
The 24-year-old Coe, a resident of LaQuinta, Calif., birdied the first and fourth holes on the front nine of the 6,404-yard, par-70 Lakeview course to get to 10 under par for the tournament and share top spot with overnight leader George Bradford of Columbia, Maryland.
Bradford started out with two birdies and a bogey over his first five holes of the day
Coe has only two top-10 finishes this year on the Canadian Tour but played himself into contention for the Jane Rogers title with solid rounds of 67 and 65 over the first 36 holes.
Bradford, who was in fourth place on the Canadian Tour’s Order of Merit coming into the Mississauga event, picked up birdies on the first and fifth holes today. He had a bogey on the second hole.
Clint Rice of Tasmania and Jim Lemon of Madison, Wisconsin, had the best rounds among the early finishers on today.
Both shot five-under-par 65 to move up into a tie for 13th place at 206.
The tournament winds up tomorrow.
