August 13, 2008 02:39 PM - A television show that features recently-married couples talking about things their significant others do that drive them crazy is looking for Mississaugans to participate.
The Slice channel's program, Newlywed, Nearly Dead, is looking for Mississauga couples willing to share with the audience everything their "better halves" do that gets on their nerves. The show is entering its third season.
To qualify, couples must be married three years or less and should enjoy good-spirited competition with their spouses. Those who appear on the show are given an opportunity to address their newlywed pet peeves via challenges and by using a "spouse camera" to collect footage of the little things their husbands or wives do that make them cringe.
However, it's not all about gathering dirt. The show has retained marriage expert Gary Direnfeld to review the footage with the couples to help them understand the annoying behaviours and to break the habits before marital bliss becomes nothing more than a fantasy.
"The success of the show demonstrates the degree we've truly been able to help couples over the first two seasons," said Direnfeld. "Newly-married couples tend to underestimate the adjustment period, even if they've lived together first. This is a light-hearted and fun way to fix things early on."
Those who have been on the show say it has helped them deal with marital problems.
"I will keep up these challenges forever," said Laura Lee Ray, who appeared in a recent episode. "I think they're very healthy for both of us (and) this show has seriously helped us out. You listened to my every word on what I needed to make our relationship get back on track with my husband."
Those interested in participating can call 416-598-2500, ext. 224 or e-mail newlywed@propertelevision.com.
