Meadowvale-based Wal-Mart Canada is making $140,000 in scholarships available to students entering university.
Eighty-two students evaluated on the basis of their academic achievements, community involvement, extracurricular activities and financial need will benefit from the retailer's generosity.
"Wal-Mart Canada is honoured to reward the hard work of Canadian students and provide financial assistance for their education and career goals," said Lina Di Diodato, manager of community involvement for Wal-Mart Canada. "Wal-Mart's scholarship program demonstrates that by investing in the education of young people, we are investing in the future."
Wal-Mart is delivering three types of scholarships: a community scholarship of $4,000 over four years (open to all Canadian students), an associate scholarship of $1,500 over one year (open to Wal-Mart associates and dependants of associates) and the Lou Puim Memorial Scholarship, worth $4,000 over four years (open to associates and dependants pursuing a degree in marketing/communications).
