August 8, 2008 11:50 AM - A 60-year-old Mississauga man who was struck Wednesday morning by a Canada Post van while crossing the street has died in hospital.
The man, whose name isn't being released by Peel Regional Police at the request of the family, was taken off life support late yesterday. Family members have decided to donate his organs.
At 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, the man was using the pedestrian right-of-way when he was struck by the van, which was turning left onto Deer Run from Rathburn Rd. W., just east of Creditview Rd. The intersection is controlled by a traffic signal.
Peel Cst. Wayne Patterson said charges are pending.
Canada Post spokesperson Albert Lee said he couldn't comment on the driver's status with the company.
"The moment something is deemed an accident, it immediately becomes a police investigation," Lee said. "Each instance is examined on a case-by-case basis, with the results on the full investigation done by the police as well as done by our own people internally."
