August 7, 2008 08:32 AM - Peel Regional Police investigators say they are trying to determine how a woman who was standing beside her bicycle at the intersection of Hurontario St. and Matheson Blvd. was struck and killed by a transport trailer last night.
Fifty-one-year-old Yuet Lan of Mississauga had dismounted from her bicycle when she was apparently struck by the trailer portion of the big rig as it made a right-hand turn from southbound Hurontario onto westbound Matheson, in front of the offices of the two local school boards, just before 7 p.m.
Lan was rushed to Credit Valley Hospital with critical injuries to her head. She was subsequently transferred to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, where she died from her injuries.
Matheson Blvd. was closed and Hurontario St. reduced to one lane for several hours while police investigated, snarling traffic in the area. The Major Collision Bureau is investigating and is appealing to any witnesses who may have seen what happened. No charges have been laid.
Anyone with information should call 905-453-2121, ext. 3710.
