July 2, 2008 09:45 PM - A Mississauga man is facing charges after OPP in Wasaga Beach used a Taser to subdue a rowdy motel visitor on Saturday night.
Huronia West OPP said they were forced to use Tasers at least twice over the weekend in the cottage country town, as revellers got an early start on Canada Day celebrations.
On Saturday night, police were called to a motel by people concerned about a man who wouldn't leave the premises.
Police say the man became aggressive, so they used the Taser out of concern for the safety of others at the motel.
The man was subdued, but not seriously injured.
Lloyd Joseph, 29, is charged with trespassing and being intoxicated in a public place.
Police also used a Taser early Saturday morning after a man broke a window at a Subway in Wasaga Beach and became aggressive and violent.
A 19-year-old from Fergus faces mischief charges.
Tasers are used by police to subdue violent culprits and reduce the possibility of serious injury to police officers and others.
They're not supposed to be used as lethal weapons, but they have come under scrutiny in recent years after being blamed for some 60 deaths in Canada and the United States.
