Members of two championship teams celebrated their heroics from a quarter century ago this past Saturday at the Hershey Centre soccer pitch during an alumni game.
When all the crisp passing, accurate shooting and huffing and puffing was over, the former Mississauga United and Toronto Italia under-17 and under-18 teams from 1982-83, fought to a 3-3 draw with a team of alumnists from other squads.
Between the two of them, the United and Italia teams captured two Ontario Cup titles and one national club championship.
Players representing Italia and United in the game included Robert Severin, Robert Cini, Guido Geisler, Frank Palumbo, Russell Baigent, Vince Molinaro, Wayne Thompson, John VanLoos, Steve Smith, Ron Wiibrink, Collin Smith, Carlo Bosco, Bill Evans, Sandy Scamurra, Pel Borea, Ricardo Constantino, Tony Ruggerio, John Davis, Richard Sweeting, Wayne Bruyns, Rick Reiss, Neil Shorey, Maurice Severin, Gareth Lewis, Rob Harding, Roland Bruyns, Luch Deluca, Gino Molinaro and Jose Navarro, Carmen Marcantonio and Robert Iarusci.
