July 2, 2008 12:51 PM - Mississauga martial artist Brian Beauchamp is No. 1.
Beauchamp was officially named Canada’s top overall competitor for 2007 during the Grapplers Quest U.S. National Championships held over the weekend.
A member of Mississauga’s Team Kombat Arts, as well as Camarillo Jiu Jitsu of San Jose, California, where he trains under Dave Camarillo, Beauchamp amassed 4,120 points during the 2007 calendar year.
He competed in five Grapplers Quest events, winning four and placing second in the other, as well as being one of only a few Canadians to ever win the Pan-American Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships.
Beauchamp is a third-degree black belt in judo, a BJJ blue belt and a former member of the Canadian national judo team.
“It was a busy year and there are no short cuts to success, but I have new goals now, the Masters Mundials (world championships) being one of them,” said Beauchamp.
