June 30, 2008 12:13 PM - Matt Turner boarded his usual Mississauga Transit bus on April 5, just the way he does every day.
He never thought that he would be a life-saver on that particular morning.
Turner, 19, sprung into action just before 6:30 a.m., when 45-year-old Mohammed Zahid, who seconds earlier had sprinted to catch the bus at Dundas St. W. and Erindale Station Rd., collapsed. The fallen man was exhibiting no vital signs.
Turner performed CPR until Peel Regional Police and other emergency crews arrived.
Zahid was revived and Peel Paramedics transported him to hospital. He has since made a full recovery.
Turner, along with Peel Cst. Leah Vermeulen, the officer who responded to the scene, played key roles in savin Zahid's life along with Mississauga firefighters and Peel Paramedics. They will be honoured by City of Mississauga and government officials tomorrow night during Canada Day ceremonies at the Shalimar Community Centre on Cedarglen Gate.
