June 30, 2008 07:31 AM - Two Brampton men have been charged in connection with a string of smash-and-grab car robberies around Mississauga.
One of the men, a pawn shop employee, has been charged with buying stolen GPS systems for re-sale in the store.
Peel Regional Police say 20-year-old James Lefebvre of Brampton worked for Busters on Queen St. E., where his job was buying merchandise for re-sale.
Detectives investigating a recent series of vehicle robberies around Mississauga and Brampton wound up at the store, where they say they found $2,000 worth of stolen GPS systems.
Lefebvre was subsequently charged with possession of stolen property.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Gavin Reginald (Kevin) Baker of Brampton now faces several charges of possession of stolen property and one count each of break-and-enter, theft and dangerous driving.
Police are reminding car owners that that all electronic equipment and valuables, including GPS systems, should be kept out of sight if left in a vehicle. Also, houses are at a higher risk for break-ins during the summer months. For tips on how to protect your home and vehicles, visit www.peelpolice.on.ca and click on Crime Prevention.
