Peel Region has received $2.6 million from Queen's Park to help pay for the more than 200 police officers hired here in the last few years.
The funds mark the second installment for the 2007/08 fiscal year of the Province’s share of the annual salary costs for the 221 additional front-line officers hired in recent years by Peel Regional Police.
The Dalton McGuinty government has committed $68 million in annual funding to help communities pay the salary-related costs of more than 2,000 additional police officers across the province.
“More police means a safer Mississauga” said Mississauga South MPP Charles Sousa. “These additional officers will help ensure that our community remains one of the safest places to live and work in the province."
