Mayers, Team Canada go for gold

Mississauga’s Jamal Mayers scored for Team Canada yesterday as they defeated Sweden 5-4 at the world hockey championships in Quebec City to earn a gold medal date with Russia tomorrow. Mayers, who plays for the NHL’s St. Louis Blues, scored in the third period to put Canada up 3-2.

Chinese community rallies behind quake victims

The Mississauga Chinese Business Association is setting up relief fund booths this weekend in support of the victims of Monday's massive earthquake in China. Tomorrow and Sunday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., booths will be set up at Golden Square Centre and at Yuan Ming Supermarket.

Tropical Storm rains on GTA grow-ops

Tropical Distribution was hit this week by a Tropical Storm, an undercover police probe that led to the seizure of equipment used to boost production at large pot-growing operations across the GTA. Police allege a Toronto business was the starting point for 18 marijuana-growing operations, including one in Mississauga.
